In these times of pandemic, one thing I have been thinking about is the fact that with the closure of all cultural spaces, it is more difficult to express ideas or concepts or communicate, except on digital platforms.
During the Berlin lockdown, while walking the dog, I used to walk past old abandoned vending machines every day and an idea came to me: why not imagine a cheap street vending machine for vaccines, a kind of ‘postcard from the future’, as if the pandemic had ended (maybe) and the abandoned post-apocalyptic vending machines remained as a memory of a distant era?
So, one day I took the measurements and printed and pasted the three versions of the vaccine. My intention was nothing more than to make a simple, anonymous intervention to make people in my neighbourhood smile and think.
Never would I have imagined that on Saturday morning (20 February, ed.) I would find my intervention as the image of the headline when I opened Der Spiegel, one of the most authoritative and widely read newspapers in Germany, on an article about vaccines and the diatribes about their different efficacy. The caption read ‘Vaccine machine in Berlin: a topic that has become a real religious dispute’. Then searching on the net I realised that it had gone viral, even appearing in the image gallery of the Berliner Morgenpost and on other blogs and newspapers.
Aside from the fact that the work remains anonymous, the connection between the vaccine to go and its potential virality was amusing, and I think that, especially in this not easy moment, it is interesting to let ourselves be called by the reduced reality we perceive, especially outside our homes, intervening spontaneously in it to wring a smile, create small provocations, let ourselves be guided by the objects that surround us, and above all use our imagination.
We can imagine anything, and once we have imagined it there is a greater chance than before that it will somehow manifest itself in reality and expand the narrow confines of our existence’.

In questi tempi di pandemia, una cosa su cui ho riflettuto è il fatto che con la chiusura di tutti gli spazi culturali sia più difficile avere la possibilità di esprimere idee o concetti o comunicare, eccetto che sulle piattaforme digitali.
Durante il lockdown berlinese, portando fuori il cane, passavo tutti i giorni davanti dei vecchi distributori abbandonati ed un’idea è uscita spontanea: perché non immaginare un distributore di vaccini per la strada a basso costo, una specie di “cartolina dal futuro”, un po’ come se la pandemia fosse finita (forse) e i distributori abbandonati post apocalittici rimanessero come memoria di un’era lontana?.
Allora, un giorno ho preso le misure ed ho stampato ed incollato le tre versioni di vaccino. La mia intenzione non era niente più che fare un semplice ed anonimo intervento per far sorridere e pensare le persone del mio quartiere.
Mai mi sarei immaginato di trovare sabato mattina (20 febbraio, ndr) il mio intervento come immagine della prima notizia aprendo il Der Spiegel, uno dei giornali più autorevoli e letti in Germania, su un articolo relativo ai vaccini e le diatribe riguardo la loro diversa efficacia. Riportando sulla didascalia “Vaccine machine a Berlino: un argomento che è diventato una vera disputa religiosa”. Poi ricercando in rete mi sono reso conto che era diventato virale uscendo anche nella galleria immagini del Berliner Morgenpost e su altri blog e giornali.
Al di là del fatto che l’opera rimanga comunque anonima, è stato divertente il nesso tra il vaccino to go e la sua potenziale viralità e credo che, specialmente in questo momento non facile, sia interessante lasciarsi chiamare da quella ridotta realtà che percepiamo, specialmente al di fuori delle nostre case, intervenendo spontaneamente su di essa per strappare un sorriso, creare delle piccole provocazioni, lasciarsi guidare dagli oggetti che ci circondano, e soprattutto usare l’immaginazione.
Possiamo immaginare qualsiasi cosa, e una volta che la si è immaginata vi è la possibilità, maggiore rispetto a prima, che questa si manifesti in qualche modo nella realtà e che allarghi gli stretti confini della nostra esistenza».
